Oarfish - 2003-08-16
Which is silly, because I never talk about oarfish. Or pictures of oarfish. Or oarfish eating habits. Or oarfish sushi. Oarfish eat grubs and ants, much like an echidna. Oarfish oarfish oarfish.

I was first introduced to Mr. Oarfish in late January 1963 when one washed up on the beach in Oak Harbor, Wash. About a week later one washed up on a beach in Northern Calif.

I've been absolutely intrigued by the oarfish ever since I was a little girl. I don't remember exactly how I had heard of it, but I think I saw a picture of it in an encyclopedia and ever since, before the oarfish became a little more popular and known, I've always thought that it was the most likely explanation to many or probably most modern reports of "sea serpents", though I'm not one to cancel out any other type of creature that could be similar to the oarfish with an elongated body. It's a fascinating creature to look at, especially swimming vertically (though they can swim regularly as well) though I notice that many people still have not even heard of the oarfish, especially those who say they've had encounters with 'sea-serpents' with 'dragon-like heads'. The oarfish is a good explanation for much of this hype.

Seen this fish today (9 May 2006) at Redang Island infront of Long Beach, Terengganu, Malaysia. I manage to captured some photos. The lenght of the fish is 207cm. This fish swimming up to the shore, we tried to bring it back to the deeper depth but this fish seems like dying. We end up brought to Marine Department at Redang Island.
